Oh how I love thee!

Hello friends Rebecca here! I hope everyone is having a fabulous February! I have to admit this  was a tough challenge for me because well, I love LOVE!!! I love Valentines Day and am actually SAD it’s over already! So keeping all this in mind I decided to use some of my most beloved supplies in the art journal page I created! I also took some inspiration from the pinks yellows and oranges found in the mood board for the month!

I started by covering my page completely in a thick coat of gesso and then smashed the wet gesso with another piece of paper which gives it a fun texture! I also made some scribbles into the wet gesso with the end of a paintbrush!

GA2

I then took yellow, orange and pink fluid acrylics and spread the paint randomly with a paper towel (p.s. I make almost ALL of my back grounds with paper towels!) I added some teal, hot pink and a bit of purple paint streaks to add some contrast to the yellow orange back ground as well as through random parts of  stencils.

GA4

I stamped with a few of my favorite stamps (hearts, music notes and writing oh my!)  I made a big teal and purple circle, stamped the word love on some scrapbook paper, cut it out and made a cute little banner! I added some random doodles with some oil pastels, threw on some random triangles and stapled the cute love sentiment at the top! The last thing I did was add a little sparkle and viola!

How are you enjoying this months challenge? I know it was tough for me but you just have to think outside the box sometimes! Good luck friends! See ya next month!

Right Now with Glenda Tkalac

Hi everyone! Maggi here to share the last project from this month’s guest Alchemist, Glenda Tkalac using our Dylusions art journal kit (now sold out but you can find more great kits HERE!)

Hi there, Glenda here with my last project and can I just say how much fun I had being Guest Designer and playing with this fabulous kit? It was fun letting my inner alchemist out and I have a fun tutorial for you on a different way to use your stencils using Golden Light Molding Paste!

molding paste for art journaling

First off here is my 2 page art journal spread. Can you see all of the texture in the background?

art journal right now

Now I will show you how I made this. First off, I placed the ever fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit onto my journal pages and took my little trowel, scooped out some molding paste and spread it onto the stencil in different areas. Don’t worry about it being too thick or too thin because it’s all about the texture baby!!

Now you will see that some of my molding paste has blue on it from me being lazy and not washing off the stencil the last time I used it. No worries, like I said before, sometimes these mistakes turn out to our advantage. Here is some molding paste detail goodness

Doesn’t it look so light and fluffy??

Once you have spread out your molding paste you need to let it dry. I went and had lunch and then came back to play! haha The next thing I did was to glue some pieces of sheet music in various places as well as some pieces of patterned paper. After that I got out my paints and got messy!!

I kept adding washi tapes and more paint to build up my background

and I also used the UmWowStudio Heart Hands Mask. I placed it onto some sheet music and traced the outline and then cut it out and glued it onto my journal page.

I love the textures of the molding paste, paint and punchinella

I don’t know if you noticed but all 3 of my journal projects are very different. I just wanted to show you that there are so many styles of art journaling and that there is no right or wrong. I have fun in my journal and love that all of my pages are so varied, so different. Art journaling is a place where you can be free to try out new techniques and just get messy!

BIG THANK YOU to Glenda Tkalac for being our guest Alchemist this month! Thank you, Glenda!

Now go glue something awesome onto some awesome something!

Art Journal Layering with Glenda Tkalac

Hi everyone! Maggi here to share the next project from this month’s guest Alchemist, Glenda Tkalac. Glenda took a journey with our Dylusions art journal kit (Now sold out but you can find more great kits HERE) and here she is with another awesome page!

Glenda: One of the things that I love to do when I art journal is use photographs. I know not everyone does because everyone has their own ideas or preferences when it comes to art journaling. Some people sketch in their journals (I envy those that can draw well!!), some people paint mini masterpieces (again, envy!), some people collage, etc.. but I really love to use photos. I don’t do it all of the time but I like looking back in my journal and seeing where I was at different times in my life as well as my family.

For this 2 page journal spread I gathered up some photos of myself and decided to do a “me” page. First I went through my stash and picked out a variety of patterned papers as well as part of a magazine page that was in the kit that I wanted to use as my background and glued them onto the journal pages.

Then I used the fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit as well as the Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions ink spray and just sprayed portions of the journal spread as well as added some washi tape to the bottom.

Once that dried I gathered up the pictures and just set them in place on the journal spread without gluing them down, because the more I add things sometimes I end up changing the placement! I added some chipboard, stickers, stamping, a journal card and even some acetate wings to this piece!

Here is the finished project:

I love seeing how a journal page starts and how it ends up so I thought I would share this with you. One tip I have is when I have pictures or patterned papers that I want to overlap from one page to the next, I cut them in half and then glue them close together so that the journal can open and close without any problems. I hope you enjoyed my project and that you are inspired to add a photo/photos to your next journal page!

Make sure to come back next week for another fantastic page from Glenda’s art journal! Until then…

Go glue something awesome onto some awesome something!

Just Be Happy with Glenda Tkalac

Maggi here to share the first project from this month’s guest Alchemist, Glenda Tkalac. Glenda took a journey with our Dylusions art journal kit and here is her page!

just be happy art journal page

Glenda: I opened up the first page of my Dylusions art journal and stared at the 1st blank page – the possibilities were endless!! If you are new to art journaling, don’t be afraid. There are no rules. There is no wrong or right. It’s whatever you feel like doing, that’s what makes it so fun!! For my 1st page I used the sheet music from the kit to be my background. I just glued it onto the art journal page and then I used the fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit as well as the Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions ink spray to add another layer of interest. I love using stencils with inks on top of sheet music and other patterned papers because you can see bits of the sheet music peeking through.

art journal quote

I also love using paint and getting messy. I painted over a section of the sheet music and stenciled area so that I could place my tag on it and while I was glueing my tag down my hand accidentally landed in the fresh paint and got on the tag. I decided to leave it on because it added more texture and interest! Sometimes a mistake can work in your favour! haha

art journal paint mistake

I love using punchinella in a couple different ways. One of course is to staple it right onto my page.

punchinella art journal

You don’t have to worry about the staples showing through on the other side because when I do this I just make sure to glue some patterned paper on the other side to cover up the staple. You could also let the staple show through on the other side and incorporate it into your new journal page. The possibilities are again endless!!

The other way I love using punchinella is to put paint on a foam dabber and then dab it onto the punchinella, which leaves cool painty circles on your journal page.

stenciling and paint art journal

I am a huge fan of quotes and love doing journal pages about them and that was the inspiration behind this page. The little yellow bird on my journal page was in an old National Geographic magazine and I just cut him out and glued him onto my page. There was something about the color yellow that reminded me of happiness and then I was inspired to find a quote about happiness.

When I journal I love using all kinds of items from my stash such as stickers, rhinestones, rub ons, chipboard, die cuts, inks, stamps, anything that I think will look neat on my page. I hope you enjoyed my art journal page!

Make sure to come back next week for another awesome page from Glenda’s art journal! Until then…

Go glue something awesome onto some awesome something!

Guest Alchemist Glenda Tkalac

Hi everyone, my name is Glenda Tkalac and I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 grown kids and 2 fur babies. I work full time but wish I could just play in my art room full time! haha I love art journaling, scrapbooking, making ATC’s and canvases. I don’t know that I have a specific style but I do know that I find inspiration everywhere and love that in art journaling there are no rules!! It’s a place for you to have fun, be creative and put your feelings down on paper. Creating makes my heart happy and is something I do to escape the stress of the everyday.

I have been thrilled to have been published in numerous magazines and a couple of books (you can see my full bio on my blog) and am currently on the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal design team as well as I design for Viva Las VegaStamps! I love iced caps, playing with paper & scissors and all things artsy, the smell of staz on ink, capris, funky runners, hoodies, Marianas Trench, baubles & purses, the Goo Goo Dolls, unicorns, rainbows, a good laugh, Coors Light, my Sony Reader, flannel sheets, scented candles and Sid Dickens memory tiles. I am super pumped and honored to be the guest designer for this month’s art journal kit! woohoo!!!! You can stop by and visit me at my blog and see my work on Flickr.
