Spring POP!

When I saw the mood board for April I got all tingly because I love color and the chance to do something totally graphic infused me with creativity!

I recently went to this cool exhibit at my local botanical gardens that paired orchids with pop art by such artists as Haring and Warhol and BAM BOOM OH YEAH!  I knew something POP was in my near future.

And I was so inspired, I decided to make two 6″ x 6″ canvases!

This first one uses wooden buttons that came unpainted. After adhering them to the canvas I gesso’d them then painted the rays with Amsterdam Neon Orange and Yellow acrylic paint. This thing is so bright you need to wear shades!

The heart was made by first spraying the cardstock I cut out with pink Rangers Dylusions Spray then covering the heart with DecoArts Crackle Texture. Once that was dry it was already somewhat pink from the under spray but then I sprayed it again and I suppose because the crackle medium dries somewhat smooth the spray ink pooled up in certain areas making it look rather jewel like.

The 2nd piece I made is a bit more traditional collage, I suppose. The background is made by cutting four pieces of this bright texture paper I’ve been saving for at least two years into half inch squares then gluing them into the grid you see. It’s actually pretty easy and a great way to meditate :)

I then cut the flower out of black cardstock, married the two together, and now we have a celebration of spring with a POP.
