Day of the Dead Earrings with Miae Rowe

Hi everyone! Maggi here to introduce this month’s guest designer, Miae Rowe! Miae got her hands on our Dia de los Muertos Kit before anyone else and I cannot wait to show you what she created with it! Here’s her first project:

Hi everyone! So normally I’m a scrapbooker by “trade” but working with the Dia de los Muertos kit definitely expanded my crafting horizon. I took one look at that awesome Day of the Dead background stamp and the very cool stone skull beads and thought….jewelry!

The first thing I did was stamp the Day of the Dead background stamp onto some shrinky dink plastic using Stazon ink. I colored in the flowers on the skulls using Sharpie markers.

Next I cut the image into quarters and rounded the edges. The whole stamped image, even when shrunk, would’ve been a bit too large for my liking but that’s just personal preference! Oh and don’t forget to punch a hole before shrinking the plastic.

After shrinking, I had myself a nifty collection of rectangle chips with these fun images! I planned to save some extra for other projects down the road…

I went to the local beading store and schooled myself on how to attach the ensemble together and this is what I came up with! Aren’t they cute?

  3. So neat! Playing with shrinky dink is on my list and I love the idea of using a background stamp and getting several “tiles” out of each stamp. Great tip on rounding the corners — looks very polished!

    Thank you for sharing.
